United States: Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that it would be “a privilege” if he would be responsible for provoking a gag order to be placed on him by the judge who will hear his upcoming trial on charges connected to a hush-money payment to an adult actress, as reported by Reuters.
Trump’s Defiant Stance
“If this Partisan Hack wants to put me in the ‘clink’ for speaking the open and obvious TRUTH, I will gladly become a Modern-Day Nelson Mandela – It will be my GREAT HONOR,” Trump posted on Saturday on his Truth Social platform.
Addressing the Judge

Trump was addressing Justice Juan Merchan, who is the judge presiding at his trial in a New York state courtroom in Manhattan. During the trial, Trump is charged with committing a criminal offense of trying to cover up a USD 130,000 payment before the 2016 election to an adult actress, Stormy Daniels, to buy her silence about an alleged sexual encounter.
The trial begins on April 15.
The Republican, who is challenging Democratic President Joe Biden in the Nov. 5 U.S. presidential election, has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records and denies an encounter with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.
Trial Background
On April 1, Merchan expanded an existing gag order that had barred Trump from publicly commenting about witnesses and court staff to make clear it also applies to family members. He did so after Trump disparaged Merchan’s daughter, as reported by Reuters.
Up next after the October hush-money trial is one of four criminal cases that Trump is currently facing less than ten weeks prior to the national elections. It could be the single one ranking for the trial before the next election. He was declared non-guilty to all the accusations and insists that they are surely politically targeted.
