United States: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz accepts the Democratic nomination for vice president on Wednesday with 11 weeks remaining before he and presidential running mate Kamala Harris go against the Republican former President Donald Trump in the forthcoming 2024 US election.

The ‘Joyful Warriors’

Walz, aged 60, who has served in the military, also taught in a high school, and was a football coach, will narrate his formative years in Nebraska, his family, and other liberties the Democratic party accuses Trump of wanting to eclipse since the latter is vying for the presidency for the third time as a member of the Republican party, as reported by Reuters.

During the campaign, Walz has introduced himself and Harris as the ‘joyful warriors’ who are bringing hope for the future as opposed to Republicans who are building a culture of fear, as per Harris.

Endorsements and Campaign Strategy

He will address at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago following Mr. Clinton, Mr. Buttigieg, and Mrs. Pelosi, who played a key role in displacing President Joe Biden a month ago and turning the Democrats’ fate around.

Biden was behind Trump in national and several state polls before he stepped down from the race and Harris has topped Trump in some of the several states which will determine the winner of the November 5 presidential election.

Receiving the endorsement of the Obama Couple on Tuesday at a convention held in Chicago were Mark Walz and Kamala Harris.

“I love this guy,” Obama said of Walz. “He knows who he is and what’s important. You can tell those flannel shirts he wears don’t come from some consultant. They come from his closet and they’ve been through some stuff.”

Walz’s ascent to national stardom has made him the subject of GOP criticism and led the Harris campaign to release statements about the candidate’s 24-year military career and the type of fertility treatment he and his wife used to conceive children.

Another is retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, a former Trump security and foreign policy adviser, who was part of the Democrats’ efforts to recruit Republicans to defeat Trump.

Harris campaign officials say that Walz’s background and simple language will attract some white men in rural areas who voted for Trump in large numbers in the previous two elections to decide the swing states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, as reported by Reuters.

Republican Criticisms and Campaign Challenges

The former president will be sharing the ticket with his VP hopeful, US Senator JD Vance, in another battleground, North Carolina, on Wednesday where Trump will be addressing attendees on matters of security.

Republicans have highly criticized the Democrats for their economic policies. As governor, Walz oversaw free school lunches, emissions reduction targets, increased paid time off, and preservation of collective bargaining and overtime, as well as ambitious liberal policies that Republicans deem reckless.
