United States: South Korea is investigating the cause of a plane crash that killed 179 people on Sunday. The country already has vowed to inspect all Boeing 737-800 aircraft used by South Korean airlines and also this crash is the deadliest aviation disaster in South Korea in decades, and it has shocked the nation, which is already facing a political crisis.
What occurred and what could have been the reason for it?
The ill-fated flight, Jeju Air flight 7C 2216, had originated at Bangkok and was preparing to land in Muan International Airport on the southwestern coast of South Korea. When the South African Boots tried the first landing it skidded off the runway then a bird strike warning came up on the Boeing 737-800 plane through the ground control center. He then sounded an emergency call and the plane landed on its nose wheel well; it went off the runway, struck a concrete barrier and exploded.
As reported by the Associate press, experts emphasize that there is shocking footage of the crash that indicate that the plane had suspected problems with the engine, but it might have landed due to the flawed landing gear.

South Korean Transport Ministry officials said on Monday they will study whether the fence the plane hit – which accommodated a set of antennas used to help planes navigate during approaches for landing – should have been constructed from materials that would collapse upon contact. They said they were also attempting to determine if there were any communication breakdown between the coordinators and the pilot.
According to the Ministry officials on Monday, the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder have been shifted to a laboratory located at Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport for investigation. Earlier, Ministry officials said it will take several months to investigate the cause of the crash.
Is crash another problem for Boeing?
The crash therefore brought Boeing a tumultuous end to what has been a disastrous 2024 for America’s largest aerospace company that was plagued with safety issues including the fatal issues with the 737-Max series, a machinists strike and falling share prices.

Analysts and Aviationists warned that the 737-800 is safer compared to the company ill-fated 737 Max airplanes behind fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019. However, South Korean authorities pledged to examine and inspect all the B737-800 series involved in domestic airlines, including the 39 operated by Jeju Air.
