United States: A big winter storm is actually causing problems from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic. It brought heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain which leads to school closures, flight cancellations, and power outages. States of emergency were somehow declared in seven states and Washington, D.C. Some places saw up to almost 18 inches of snow, and in Kansas, I-70 was closed. Western New York reported more than 5 feet of snow.

The storm arrives as an Arctic air mass is forecasted to bring lows well down into the Gulf Coast area. According to forecasters, those freezing temperatures will persist through mid-January.

Last year alone, over 1 800 flights were cancelled.

As reported by the Yahoo News, this storm has disrupted air travel to a very large extent. More than 200 flights in and out of the United States have been canceled so far: around 450 at Reagan National and over 250 at Chicago O’Hare, which has enforced a temporary ground stop because of the snow and ice this Monday.

The Federation Aviation Administration said that there might be grounds delay this afternoon at New York La Guardia and Kennedy airport and Newark International Airport New Jersey because of the ice formation.
