United States – Cops in Charlotte, North Carolina, announced on Tuesday that they were probing whether there was more than one shooter in the sequence of events that had taken place a day before, resulting in the death of four officers who were serving an arrest warrant on a fugitive at a residence.

Deadly Confrontation During Warrant Execution

It was on Monday when law officers from the U.S. Marshals Office reached the home to execute a warrant of a firearm possession by a convicted felon, that the gunfire erupted. The cops returned fire, and the shooter was ultimately shot in the front yard during the gunfight, the police department stated, as reported by Reuters.

Cooperation in Investigation

A woman and another lady who were in the home when the situation went down are helping the police in the investigation, and police are not looking at supplementary persons of interest, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department chief Johnny Jennings said at a briefing.

Jennings said, “We’re not ruling out the possibility that someone else was firing as well,” The mayor added they were waiting for the police to finalize a timeline and bodycam footage.

Weapons Recovered from Scene

Investigators recouped an AR-15 rifle, a 40-caliber handgun, and additional bullets from the resident place, according to Jennings.

Officers’ Identities and Injuries

As MNUB Jennings said, these three officers were serving in the U.S. Marshals Task Force, and the fourth slain officer was from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Another four of the officers were wounded by the gunman. Meanwhile, the only one who was still in the hospital on Tuesday was the one who was supposed to fully get better. There were three, Jennings said, others released from the hospital.

“It’s just been very tough, knowing that you have families that are hurting right now,” he said.

Calls for Action and Justice

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper remarked that he had visited one of the wounded officers and that of the slain at the hospital.

“The investigation into this tragic, brutal, deadly attack will result in more answers that we don’t know today, and I expect it to find those answers and bring to justice people for these needless deaths of these brave officers,” Cooper told reporters at the news conference, as reported by Reuters.

President Joe Biden urged for further measures to reduce gun violence in the U.S. on Monday in response to the shooting.

“Leaders in Congress need to step up so that we ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, require safe storage of guns, and pass universal background checks and a national red flag law,” Biden said in a statement.
