United States: An Arkansas father has been arrested after fatally shooting a man he found in a car with his missing 14-year-old daughter.
Aaron Spencer, 36, reported his daughter missing on Tuesday, and the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office sent out deputies in response.
But Spencer found his daughter in a car with Michael Fosler, 67, before the deputies showed up. Following a confrontation, Spencer is said to have shot Fosler to death, according to Fox News.
A preliminary charge of first-degree murder led to Spencer’s arrest. He was arrested at the Lonoke County Detention Center and freed on bond the next day. Sheriff John Staley stated that formal charges have not yet been filed and that the district attorney’s office is currently deciding what charges will be brought.
“This is a tragic situation, and my thoughts and prayers are with all involved,” Staley stated.
Aaron Spencer’s wife Heather disclosed on Facebook that Fosler had a “no contact order” with their daughter following his sexual assault and stalking of her during the previous summer.
She added that neither she nor her spouse knew he had started communicating with their daughter again.
“This is a tragic situation, and my thoughts and prayers are with all involved,” Staley said.
Heather Spencer, Aaron’s wife, took to Facebook, revealing that Fosler had a “no contact order” with their daughter after he stalked and raped her last summer.
She also mentioned that neither she nor her husband knew he had re-established contact with their daughter.
“We absolutely called 911 during the entire event,” she wrote. “We had no idea this man was in contact with our child again. He was awaiting 6-9 felonies for what he did, not 2. He was looking at the rest of his pathetic life in jail, and our daughter was the only witness.”
The sheriff’s office is currently looking into the circumstances leading up to the incident. “When we get on scene and there’s a homicide, it means one person took the life of another,” Staley explained.
“It can be justified, or it can’t. That is the information that the fact-seeking and inquiry will reveal,” he added.
According to Fox News, Heather Spencer also created a GoFundMe page to help pay for her husband’s legal bills.
However, the page was removed, and the money was reimbursed since GoFundMe prohibits users from using their accounts to support the legal defense of those accused of violent crimes.
