United States: On Thursday, President Joe Biden will travel to North Carolina, where he is going to talk about US$82 million in new investments that have the potential to connect 16,00 households with high-speed internet.
Trying to get reelected, Biden has set his primary focus on the success of enclosing North Carolina and its sixteen electoral votes in this fall’s presidential election. In 2020, the Democrat only lost by a margin of 1.34 percentage points to former President Trump (the current frontrunner in what could prove a political reprise) and lost the state narrowly.
The Democratic president intends to use his visit to Raleigh’s state capital to emphasize how his administration is connecting impoverished areas and companies to the digital economy.
Tackling Economic Challenges
The economy has been a failing spot for Biden, according to polls, and its inflation hit nearly four decades in June, the year of 2021. While this has resulted in lower inflation rates since that time, Biden’s approval ratings have not come back to the levels shown when his presidency started.
Subsidized Internet Services for North Carolina Families
One way the administration claims to have reduced costs for families is by offering subsidized internet service to 880,000 North Carolina households, as per a report by the Associated Press.
$3 Billion Pledge for Statewide Internet Expansion
The administration has pledged a total of $3 billion to expand and fund internet services in North Carolina.
The President, Vice President, and Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, announced how much funding each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five territories will receive from the $42.45 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program as part of the “Internet for All” initiative, a key component of President Biden’s “Investing in America” agenda.
“This is also a historic $1.5 billion investment in North Carolina’s broadband infrastructure as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda that will ensure all residents are able to get access to affordable, reliable high-speed Internet,” Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce said in her statement. Governor Cooper has been the key proponent for expanding internet connectivity with thanks.
